Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, Montreux,
Switzerland
Location:
Montreux, a Swiss resort located between Lake Geneva and the Alps, is an
ideal starting point for many day trips. Montreux Palace is located less
than one hour from Geneva international airport (90 km) or two hours from
Zurich international airport (200 km) and scarcely half-hour from the Lausanne
train station, with direct connections by TGV to Paris. The hotel is just
a three minute walk from the Montreux train station. Le Montreux Palace
has always been one of the finest of the great international hotels. In
1928, it was in fact one of the founding members of the famous "Leading
Hotels of the World" group that today more than ever includes the most
prestigious establishments in the world. It all begins with a wave of luxury,
elegance and refinement composed of innumerable details - frescoes, glasswork,
precious woodwork, crystal chandeliers - from the Belle Époque.
History:
In 1881, two famous Swiss pioneers from Montreux Alexandre Emery and Ami
Chessex buy the Hotel du Cygne (built in 1837). In 1895 they found the
company “Le Montreux Palace & Cygne”. The Swiss architect Eugene Jost
builds the Palace in a record time of 18 months and the hotel opens on
March 19th 1906. The new hotel is joined to the original Hotel du Cygne
by the Salon de Musique, the Grand Hall and richly decorated ballrooms.
Wonderful parties such as Venetian Nights, fancy-dress balls, concerts
and many other grand social occasions were held in the magnificent “Art
Nouveau” and “Neo-Baroque” rooms. Guests came from all over the world:
European aristocrats, Russian princes, New-York bankers, maharajahs.
Rooms
and Suites: Famous guests include Richard Strauss, Vladimir Nabokov,
Sophia Loren and David Niven. Since the first First Montreux
Jazz Festival in 1966, every year, a host of world-renowned artists
stays at the Montreux Palace in summer, such as B.B. King, Miles Davis,
Georges Benson, Al Jarreau, James Brown, Herbie Hancock and Eric Clapton.
In 2002, Montreux Palace was taken over by Raffles Holding Ltd. All
room renovations have been completed during first quarter of 2003. 235
rooms, including 49 suites, delicately combine a refined decor with modern
comforts and high-technology. On 6th June 2007, Montreux Palace joined
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts as a new hotel in Switzerland in its collection
of landmark hotels as “Fairmont Le Montreux Palace”.
Restaurants
and Bars: Montreux Palace boast of four restaurants and three bars.
The fine dining restaurant Jaan offers delicate French cuisine with
subtle Asian savours. Jaan ‘s design is contemporary and minimalist. The
large windows of the restaurant have panoramic views over the new gardens
of Fairmont Le Montreux Palace as well as Lake Geneva and the Alps of the
“ Haute Savoie ”. La Brasserie du Palace has a choice of gourmet
brasserie food and hot meals from 11.30 am to 10.30 pm. La Terrasse
du Petit Palais specializes on light cuisine with Asian flavours cooked
in the Wok or à la carte specialities. Harry's New York Bar
with its terrace is the place for cocktails, late-night meals and live
music. The Bar Rose d'Or has an intimate atmosphere and live piano
music.

activities: golf, tennis, mountain biking, horse riding, diving, rock climbing,
paragliding, swimming, skiing or sailing allowing each and everyone, families,
